aggrenymns 03:15
Words are only words ‘til they come true, until they come to you. Inverse, silvery sky, gulls below and on high. What lies beneath? Never mind. Worlds unseen-are they not worlds? Words unsaid- do they not swim inside my head? Mysteries aren’t mysteries, Until you’ve caught a glimpse.

scalded 03:45
I never wanted to make it hard on you. I know there’s only so much that you can do. Lately everybody wants a piece. And who can blame them? We all want that quality. I know you know how I hate to be ignored. And when you don’t pick up, you know I push more. I know that you need a little while. I want to hit the iron while we’ve got the fire. I know it’s hard to say no, when you want to say yes. I know it’s hard, to say no and stay focused. I pull my hair because I’m counting on you. I never know if you’re gonna pull through. And I know that I am not alone. Suppose it tells me all that I need to know. I know it’s hard to say no when you wanna say yes. I know it’s had to say no, and stay focused.

vassals 03:55
We are merely vessels now. Accepting any fill. Across our faces are displayed traces of their will. Dynamic the device. Fleeting thoughts, flashing lights keep us occupied. They’re counting on you to avert your view. To cede your due. Mornings tragedy recedes. Making way for tonight’s celebrity. Preoccupied with the cusp, it matters only when, it hardly matters what. They’re counting on you. To avert your view. So what use are you? What use and to whom?

freefall 04:29
I am trying to navigate it all. My mind’s set on repeat, (trying) to reconcile this fall. It’s hard not to feel that it’s personal. Knowing what you know. Builder of the fall. Once I spent my days wrapped up in his arms. Beams of yellow light falling on a life of charm. Now I sip on sleep when I can. I rush awake with fear. I thought I could trust the floor. Now I’ve been in free fall for years. Finally now! Washed up on your shore! Don’t turn me around, into the winter for more!

moons 04:05
I remember Patagonia. Desert at dusk. Even then it bordered on a dream. Jewels fell from your mouth, and were buried there in the sand. I’ve tried to gather them. Now the world’s without you. And I’m memory lean. We let so many moons pass between us and Patagonia. Divine wind. Wild wind. Divine wind.

The object’s now the eye. Tracking us from the inside. Unabashed is our gaze, as we while our lives away. We’ll do anything to get inside that seen screen. And strike lightning. That’s enticing. Time isn’t ours to kill. Power is bound to will. And we’re off partying, or gazing at that seeing screen. We see you. We’ll do anything to get inside that seen screen. And strike lightning. ‘Cause that’s enticing.

pine 03:39
It’s not romantic to be remote. Pining page by page, and how could you know? A garden I won’t tend. A labored letter I won’t send. It’s not romantic to be remote. The depth of my despair caught in our children’s hair. It’s not romantic to be remote. I’m in exile. Soul starved in exile. It’s not romantic to be remote.

soil 04:48
Candidly, I admit I feel some powerlessness. Achingly aware of my size in all of this massiveness. And what am I? When the blade rolls by? What role do I play? Soil under the blade. A quick catch in a quest for cash that’ll be made. Soil under the blade. A small inconvenience to move out of the way. Would that I could believe in a victory that we could achieve! But all of our triumphant songs just drive the dread on. Our serious ones are gone. What am I when the blade rolls by? What role do I play? Soil under the blade. And it’s by design that I feel this way. Soil under the blade. A value unseen won’t calculate. I feel like soil under the blade! But the spell that I’m under is beginning to fade.

unblast 04:04
You start fires ‘cause you enjoy the warmth of the flame. That wild light, tearing at night. I saw you there, and you turned away. Determined look across your face. Tragic empire exploits spark and kindling. Greedy for sympathy. You start fires, you employ that consuming flame. Out of control. Something to blame. Build your fire from the reclaim, and take your place. Ghostly in your refrain. Build your pyre at any cost, including your name. Feels right when it burns hot. In the dawn when we all smell of smoke and singe. And we’re left sifting through this blitz, I’ll know. That wild light... Tearing at night.

You can’t bite hard enough to get a ride. You’re not safe, though you’re inside. Your own home lost in a landslide. No escape, snagged by the riptide. You can’t bite hard enough to get a ride. Deranged dance in a death-cult empire. Ancient life defiled in fire. Methane ghosts rip forth from inside. You can’t bite hard enough to get a ride. Truth exposed to no light. Everyone’s prepared for the wrong fight. Arc of Justice recoils in fright. You can’t bite hard enough to get a ride. Is it a virtue to be hopeful? Knee deep in anthropocene? No one’s facing the truth. We’ll all be climate refugees. Is it a virtue to be hopeful? Just like everybody says? Disco party at the grave yard. I guess we’re not quite dead yet. The last ones, they will curse us. More than wheels of the machine. Builders of the great derangement. The lifeless anthropocene. Is it so bad to be hopeless knee deep in anthropocene? No one’s facing the truth. We’ll all be climate refugees. Is it a virtue to be hopeful? Just like everybody says? Disco party at the graveyard. I guess we’re not quite dead yet. And the last ones, they will curse us. More than wheels on the machine. Builders of the great derangement. The lifeless anthropocene.

Fire up your fury, feed your furnace coal. Tend to your frustrations, never let them go. Angry at the risen sun, bitter with the bed you’re on, angry at what you’ve begun. You’re a volcano. It’s easy to move on. It’s easy and I’m gone. Pack up your antagonies, dense unwieldy load. Multiply them when you can. You’re a volcano. It’s easy to move on. It’s easy and I’m gone.

about

Four years in the making, GM2FB2 was written while CaveofswordS (and America) experienced a pummeling. Starting with the loss of a parent, the moral injury of living under the administration of a sadist, a member's near-death saga, another member's battle with addiction, the panic of paying attention to science during the anthropocene, a deadly, economy-crushing global pandemic, and the righteous revolt against a racist police state, this band has had a lot to think about. CaveofswordS wants you to know that you are not alone. They want you to enjoy special and beautiful things, and they hope that you find GM2FB2 to be one of them.
Wallow and grieve with your friends.
But dance, too.
